Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence

Remove or disconnect:

PROCEDURE.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain coolant..

3. Timing belt..

4. Intake manifold with gasket..

5. Exhaust manifold with gasket.

6. Ignition distributor..

7. Valve cover with gasket..

8. Camshafts 19 and tappets

20..

9. Belt tensioner 53 and idler roller

55..

10. Stud 68 of timing belt cover..

11. Cylinder head bolts 30..

Warning.

First loosen all cylinder head bolts by 1/4 turn in the

sequence shown in fig. Cylinder head bolt loosening sequence. Then loosen all bolts by another 1/2 turn in the same sequence..

12. Cylinder head

13. Clean mating surfaces of cylinder head and block..

Installation

PROCEDURE.

1. New gasket 35 onto cylinder block upper deck..

2. Cylinder head onto block and screw in bolts

3. Tighten cylinder head bolts to torque 20 N·m, then turn bolts an additional 195° in three steps (65° each). Tighten bolts in the sequence shown in fig. Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence.
