Lubrication System
GENERAL INFORMATION

Engine Lubrication System
The forced lubrication system includes a full-flow oil filter and a gear-type oil pump. The pump draws oil from the oil pan, which passes through the
suction screen and delivers it to the lubrication system through the oil filter. The engine is fitted with a full-flow oil filter with a paper filter element. The system includes a filter bypass channel through which oil
flows to the moving engine parts when the filter becomes clogged and its resistance increases. From the filter, oil is directed to the main oil gallery, from which the oil passages to the main bearings branch off..
Connecting rods have small holes through which oil is sprayed onto the inner cylinder walls for lubrication and into the pistons for cooling..
A vertical passage branches from the main oil gallery to supply oil to the camshaft housings. Oil enters the central axial passages of the camshafts through radial holes in the third bearing journals and is distributed to the
other bearings. The vertical passage connects to the upper longitudinal
oil passages drilled on the left and right sides of the cylinder head. Through these passages oil flows to the hydraulic lash adjusters of the intake and exhaust
valves. Camshaft lobes are lubricated with oil from the central passages through radial drillings in the lobes. Excess oil drains from the
valve train into the oil pan through the vertical drain
holes located near the intake valves of cylinders 1, 2 and 3, see figure Engine Lubrication System.
