Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve

GENERAL INFORMATION

Idle Air Control Valve A. DISTANCE FROM THE PINTLE TIP TO THE MATING FLANGE FACE.

Remove or disconnect:

PROCEDURE.

1. IAC valve electrical connector..

2. Unscrew the mounting screws..

3. Valve..

Warning.

Handle the IAC valve with care. Do not press or pull the pintle out of the

valve. This may damage the screw drive.

The IAC valve must not come into contact with any solvents or

cleaners to prevent failure..

Clean and inspect.

PROCEDURE.

1. Clean the O-ring seat, the valve seat and the air passage.

Use carburetor cleaner and a brush to remove deposits.

Shiny spots on the pintle or the IAC valve seat are normal and do not indicate misalignment or deformation of the pintle

element.

If the air passage is heavily contaminated with deposits, remove the throttle body to thoroughly clean the passage..

2. Check the condition of the O-ring for cuts, cracks or

deformation. Replace the defective O-ring.

Measure (when installing a new IAC valve).

PROCEDURE.

Distance from the end of the valve pin to the mating surface of the flange.

If this distance exceeds 28 mm, press the valve pin in slowly with your finger until it retracts into the valve body. The force required to move the pin of the new valve cannot damage the valve mechanism. This

adjustment prevents the valve pin from contacting the seat during IAC valve installation. The 28 mm distance corresponds to the position of the valve pin

at idle when the engine is restarted.

Installation

PROCEDURE.

1. Lubricate the IAC valve O-ring with engine oil.

2. Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.

3. Install the mounting screws. Tighten the IAC valve mounting screws to 3 N·m torque.

4. Electrical connector.

5. Set the IAC valve pin to the operating position.

5a. Turn the ignition on without starting the engine.

5b. Connect the diagnostic connector terminal to "ground" for 5 seconds.

5c. Disconnect the terminal from "ground".

5d. Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds.

5e. Start the engine and check the idle speed.
