The throttle body is attached to the engine intake manifold, see Fig.

Throttle Body (engine 1.5 L SOHC). The throttle valve

regulates the amount of air entering the engine and therefore engine output. The throttle valve is operated by the accelerator pedal through a mechanical linkage. At engine idle, the throttle valve is almost fully closed, and airflow is metered by the idle air control valve.

To prevent throttle icing in cold weather, coolant from the engine cooling jacket is supplied to the throttle body. The coolant circulates through internal passages in the throttle body and returns to the cooling jacket.

The throttle body contains the throttle position sensor (TPS). In addition, there are ports and fittings in the body in front of and behind the throttle valve for connecting vacuum hoses, through which vacuum is supplied to various engine devices.
