Fuel Pressure Regulator
GENERAL INFORMATION

Fuel Pressure Regulator
1. VACUUM HOSE.
2. O-RING.
3. REGULATOR HOUSING.
4. RETURN LINE FITTING.
5. FITTING O-RING.
6. DIAPHRAGM.
7. COMPRESSION SPRING.
8. REGULATOR VACUUM CHAMBER COVER.
The fuel pressure regulator includes a pressure relief valve with a compression spring and a diaphragm-type sensing element, see Fig. Fuel Pressure Regulator.
The diaphragm separates the two regulator chambers: the fuel chamber and the vacuum chamber.
The vacuum chamber is connected by a hose to the engine intake manifold. The regulator compression spring is also located in the vacuum chamber. The function
of the regulator is to maintain a specified stable fuel pressure supplied to the injectors and to adjust this pressure depending on engine load.
When intake manifold vacuum decreases, fuel pressure in the system increases.
The fuel pressure regulator is installed on the end of the fuel rail and is not serviceable.
With the engine running, the regulator maintains fuel system pressure within the range of 225–284 kPa.
If pressure falls below the lower limit, normal engine operation is disrupted and the ECM sets DTC 44.
If fuel pressure exceeds 325 kPa, a strong exhaust odor appears and DTC 45 is set.
