Preventing the Key from Being Locked in the Vehicle

~1min read

Except vehicles sold in South Africa

If the key is in the ignition switch, the key lockout system will not allow the driver's door to be locked.

If the key is left in the ignition switch and any side door or the liftgate is not closed, the door locks cannot be operated with the central locking master switch. If the driver's door is closed, the lock button remains operational. Moving the lock button rearward will lock all doors, including the liftgate.

If you try to lock the open driver's door by moving the lock button rearward while the outside door handle is released, all lock buttons will extend and all doors will unlock.

For vehicles supplied to South Africa

If the key is left in the ignition switch and any door, including the liftgate, is not fully closed, the power door lock master switch cannot operate the door locks. If the driver's door is closed, the lock button on the driver's door remains operational. Pushing the driver's door lock button rearward will lock all doors, including the liftgate. If you attempt to lock an open driver's door by pushing the lock button rearward, the lock button will return to the forward position and the door will remain unlocked.
