Cruise Control Operation

~1min read

ESC On Condition

When the engine Start/Stop button is in the ON position, the ESC and ESC OFF indicator lights come on for approximately three seconds and then go off, after which the ESC is turned on.

During Operation

When ESC is operating, the ESC indicator flashes:

  • When you apply the brake under conditions that may lock the wheels, you may hear sounds from the brakes or feel a corresponding pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and means that your ESC is active.
  • When the ESC is activated, the engine may not respond to the accelerator as it does under normal conditions.
  • If cruise control was in use when the ESC activates, cruise control is automatically canceled. Cruise control may be turned back on when road conditions allow. See "Cruise Control System" later in this chapter. (if equipped)
  • When getting out of mud or driving on slippery roads, the engine speed (rpm) may not increase even if you depress the accelerator pedal fully. This is to maintain stability and traction of the vehicle and does not indicate a problem.

ESC OFF Condition

To cancel ESC operation:

• Condition 1

Briefly press the ESC OFF button (the ESC OFF indicator light comes on). In this state, the engine control function does not operate. In other words, the traction control function does not operate, but only the brake control function operates.

• Condition 2

Press and hold the ESC OFF button for more than 3 seconds. The ESC OFF indicator light comes on and a chime sounds to warn that ESC is off. In this state, the engine control and brake control functions do not operate. In other words, the vehicle stability control function no longer operates.

If the engine Start/Stop button is pressed to the OFF position while ESC is off, ESC remains off. After restarting the engine, ESC is automatically turned back on.
