Tire Rotation

~1min read

To equalize tread wear, it is recommended that you rotate the tires every 12,000 km (7,500 miles), or sooner if irregular wear is evident.

When rotating, check the tire balance.

Also check for wear and damage. Abnormal wear is usually caused by incorrect tire pressure, poor wheel alignment, poor balance, hard braking, or taking corners at very high speed. Look for irregularities in the tread or sidewall of the tire. Replace the tire if you notice any of these faults. Replace the tire if the belt or cord is visible. After rotating, check the pressure of the front and rear tires and check the tightness of the wheel nuts.

See "Tires and Wheels" in Chapter 8.

Directional Tires

Check brake disc wear each time the tires are replaced.

Intelligent

Directional radial tires with an asymmetric tread pattern can only be rotated front to rear and cannot be switched from left to right.

WARNING

  • Do not use the compact spare tire (if equipped) for rotation.
  • Never mix bias-ply tires with radial tires. This may lead to hazardous handling, which may result in serious or fatal injury or serious damage.
