Starting the Engine
WARNING
- Always wear appropriate footwear when operating the vehicle. Improper footwear, such as high heels, ski boots, sandals, slippers, etc., may interfere with your ability to use the brake, accelerator, and clutch pedals.
- Do not start the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle may move, which may cause an accident.
- Wait until the engine speed is normal. The vehicle may move suddenly if the brake pedal is released when the engine speed is high.
Information
- The engine will start by pressing the Engine Start/Stop button only when the Smart Key is inside the vehicle.
- Even if the Smart Key is inside the vehicle, the engine may not start if the key is far from the driver.
- When the Engine Start/Stop button is in the ACC or ON position, if a door is opened, the system checks for the Smart Key. If the Smart Key is not in the vehicle, the "
" indicator will flash and the warning "Key Not in Vehicle" will appear. If all doors are closed, a chime will also sound for about 5 seconds. Keep the Smart Key inside the vehicle when using the ACC position or when the engine is running.

Starting and Stopping the Engine for Turbocharger Intercooler
1. Do not race the engine or accelerate immediately after starting the engine. If the engine is cold, idle it for a few seconds until sufficient lubrication is provided to the turbocharger.
2. After high speed or prolonged driving that requires a heavy engine load, idle the engine for about 1 minute before turning the engine off. This idle time allows the turbocharger to cool before the engine is switched off.
NOTICE
Do not turn off the engine immediately after it has been under heavy load. This may cause serious engine or turbocharger damage.
NOTICE
To avoid damage to the vehicle:
- If the engine stalls while driving, do not attempt to shift the gear shift lever to the P (Park) position. If traffic and road conditions permit, you may place the gear shift lever in the N (Neutral) position while the vehicle is still moving and press the Engine Start/Stop button when attempting to restart the engine.
- Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine.
NOTICE
To avoid damage to the vehicle: Do not press the Engine Start/Stop button for more than 10 seconds, except when the stop lamp fuse has blown.
When the stop lamp fuse has blown, you cannot start the engine normally. Replace the fuse with a new one. If you are unable to replace the fuse, you can start the engine by pressing and holding the Engine Start/Stop button for 10 seconds with the Engine Start/Stop button in the ACC position.
For your safety, always depress the brake and/or clutch pedal before starting the engine.

If the smart key battery is discharged or the smart key does not operate properly, you can start the engine by pressing the Engine Start/Stop button with the smart key held in the direction shown in the illustration above.
