Keep Hands on Steering Wheel

If the driver takes their hands off the steering wheel for several seconds while the LFA system is activated, the system will warn the driver.

Information

Hold the steering wheel firmly. Otherwise, the LFA system may incorrectly determine that the driver's hands are off the steering wheel, and a warning may appear.

WARNING

The warning message may be delayed depending on road conditions. Therefore, always keep hands on the steering wheel while driving.

Driving Comfort Systems Canceled

If the driver still does not have their hands on the steering wheel after the "Keep Hands on Steering Wheel" message, the system will not control the steering wheel and will only warn the driver when the driver crosses the lane markings.

However, if the driver's hands are back on the steering wheel, the system will start controlling steering again.

WARNING

  • The LFA system is a supplemental system only. It is the driver's responsibility to drive safely and keep the vehicle within its lane.
  • Turn off the LFA system and drive without using the system in the following situations:
    - In bad weather
    - On poor road conditions
    - When the steering wheel must be frequently controlled by the driver.
    - When towing a vehicle or trailer

Information

  • Even though steering is assisted by the system, the driver can still control the steering wheel.
  • The steering wheel may feel heavier when steering is assisted by the system than when it is not.

Inspection of the Lane Follow Assist (LFA) System

If there is a problem with the system, a message will appear for several seconds. If the problem does not go away, we recommend having the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

The LFA system will not be in the ENABLED state and/or the steering wheel will not assist when:

  • The turn signal is activated before changing lanes. If you change lanes without activating the turn signal, the steering wheel may be controlled.
  • The vehicle is not centered in the lane when the system is turned on or immediately after changing lanes.
  • ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) is activated.
  • The vehicle is driving through a sharp curve.
  • Vehicle speed exceeds 95 mph (153 km/h).
  • The vehicle makes a sudden lane change.
  • The vehicle brakes suddenly.
  • Only one lane marking is detected.
  • The lane is very wide or narrow.
  • There are more than two lane markers on the road (for example, a construction area).
  • The radius of the curve is too small.
  • The vehicle is driving on a steep incline.
  • The steering wheel is turned sharply.
  • The system may not operate for 15 seconds after the engine is started or until the camera is initialized.
