Secure the safety chains between the vehicle and the trailer. Cross the safety chains under the trailer tongue so that it does not drop to the road if it disconnects from the hitch.
Instructions for using safety chains may be provided by the manufacturer of the hitch or the trailer. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for attaching the safety chains. Always leave the trailer connection slack enough to allow for turns. Never let the safety chains drag on the ground.
