Maintenance When Towing a Trailer
When regularly towing a trailer, the vehicle will require maintenance more frequently.
Pay particular attention to checking the engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, axle differential oil, and engine coolant levels.
In addition, it is very important to check the condition of the brake system frequently. Each inspection item is described in this manual and can be easily found using the table of contents. If you tow a trailer, it is useful to review these sections before starting your trip.
Also keep the trailer and the hitch in good condition. Follow the trailer maintenance schedule and check its condition periodically. It is recommended to inspect daily before starting to drive. Most importantly, make sure all hitch nuts and bolts are tightened.
If the coolant temperature gauge indicates overheating, turn off the air conditioner and stop the vehicle in a safe place to let the engine cool.
• When towing, check the transmission fluid level more frequently.
• If the vehicle is not equipped with air conditioning, install a condenser fan to improve engine performance when towing a trailer.
