Hood
The airbag system warning light reliably indicates the system status. If it lights up when the Kia Opirus is started and goes out shortly afterwards, the system is ready for operation. If it stays on, there is a fault. This chapter explains typical causes of malfunctions, from defective sensors to interrupted cable connections. Early diagnosis and a visit to a workshop are essential so that the protection of all occupants is not compromised.

Opening the hood
1. Pull the release lever located on the left side wall in the driver's footwell to release the hood to the first stage. The front of the hood should rise slightly.
2. Go to the radiator grille and lift the hood slightly. Pull the lever of the second latch stage (1) under the centre of the hood forward (2) and lift the hood.
3. The hood props itself up fully automatically once you have lifted it about halfway.
Closing the hood
1. Before closing the hood, check the following points:
- All filler caps in the engine compartment must be properly closed.
- Gloves, cleaning rags and other flammable objects must be removed from the engine compartment.
2. Lower the hood about halfway, then press the hood into the hood latch to lock it securely. Before driving, check that the hood is properly latched.
WARNING- Before closing the hood, make sure that no objects are within the hood's range of movement. If objects are in the area of the hood when it is closed, this can cause property damage and serious personal injury.
- Do not leave flammable objects such as cleaning rags and gloves in the engine compartment. Such objects could be set on fire by engine heat.
- Always make sure the hood is fully closed before driving. If the hood is not latched, it could fly up while driving, completely block your view and cause an accident.
- Never drive with the hood open, as your view will be blocked and the hood could close unexpectedly or be damaged.
Thanks to its well-thought-out design, the hood of the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 is easy and safe to operate. The latch system ensures that the hood stays firmly closed while driving and does not spring open unintentionally.
The safety and maintenance notes help prevent damage and ensure the hood functions safely. This means the Kia Opirus meets the highest standards in the engine compartment as well.
Correct operation and regular checks help extend the service life of the system and increase road safety.
