A/C switch. OFF button. Tips for operating the A/C. Checking refrigerant and oil quantity
The air conditioning of the Kia Opirus can be conveniently activated with the A/C button and provides comfortable temperatures even in extreme heat. Tips on use, such as opening the windows in hot weather or regular operation, promote efficiency and longevity. Maintenance notes on refrigerant and oil quantity emphasize the importance of proper servicing. Only with correct fill quantities is cooling performance maintained, and costly repairs can be avoided.
A/C switch
Press the A/C button to switch on the air conditioning. The switch indicator light illuminates when the air conditioning is on.
To switch off the air conditioning, press the A/C button again.

OFF button
Press the OFF button to switch off the climate control system.
With the ignition on, the "Fresh Air/Recirculation" and "Air Quality Control" modes can also be selected when the climate control system is off.
Tips for operating the air conditioning
- If the vehicle has been parked in the sun or outdoors in high outside temperatures, open the windows for a short time so the hot air can escape from the vehicle.
- To reduce fogging of the windows from the inside, e.g. in rainy weather, lower the humidity inside the vehicle by switching on the air conditioning.
- With the air conditioning on, you may occasionally notice a slight change in idle speed when the A/C compressor switches on or off.
This is normal during air conditioning operation.
- To ensure the air conditioning remains ready for operation, run the air conditioning for at least a few minutes each month.
- During or after air conditioning operation, clear condensation water may drip from the vehicle onto the floor on the passenger side. This is normal.
- The A/C compressor is switched off automatically when the engine temperature exceeds a certain value.
The compressor switches back on automatically when the engine temperature returns to the normal range. The compressor is also switched off for a few seconds when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed.
- When the air conditioning is on, preferably select fresh air mode.
- When the air conditioning is operated in recirculation mode, the cooling effect is at its maximum, but the air quality inside the vehicle deteriorates if this mode is used for extended periods.
NOTE
Monitor the engine temperature gauge when driving with the air conditioning on in high outside temperatures on hilly routes or in heavy city traffic. Operating the air conditioning may cause the engine to overheat.
If the engine overheats, switch off the air conditioning and let the blower continue to run.
Checking Refrigerant and Oil Quantity
If the refrigerant charge is too low, the air conditioning performance is reduced. Overfilling the system adversely affects the air conditioning system.
Therefore, have the air conditioning checked by an authorized Kia dealer if any irregularities in air conditioning operation are noticed.
Air conditioning refrigerant and compressor oil
WARNINGThe air conditioning system should be serviced only by a qualified technician. Improper work may result in serious injury.
CAUTIONIf the cooling performance of the air conditioning decreases, be sure to fill only the specified refrigerant and compressor oil in the prescribed quantity. Otherwise, the compressor may be damaged and the climate control system may malfunction.
The air conditioning of the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 offers well-designed features for efficient and safe operation. The clear control via the A/C and OFF buttons makes everyday operation easy.
Tips on operation and maintenance help keep the air conditioning system performing well over the long term and prevent damage. This keeps the Kia Opirus comfortable even in high outside temperatures.
