The passenger airbag module (PAB) is located in the passenger airbag. This PAB contains 2 airbag inflators and 1 active vent inflator. Depending on crash severity or seat belt fastening, timing is decided for both the 2 airbag inflators and the 1 active vent inflator. At the time of vehicle collision, activation of the active vent inflator opens the airbag, and then gas is released sequentially through the hole of the airbag. These operations reduce passenger head injury. First, the active vent enables rapid airbag deployment, and maintaining pressure after deployment releases gas through the upper airbag vent. Tether Cutter operating principle: When an electrical signal is received, the Tether Cutter cuts the tether installed on the Active Vent to open the upper airbag vent. Active Vent operating range

  1. If the passenger on the passenger seat is not wearing a seat belt, the active vent is deactivated at the end of the crash event, regardless of crash severity.
  2. If the passenger is wearing a seat belt and the crash is severe enough that 2nd stage deployment of the passenger airbag is required, the active vent is activated to optimize passenger protection.
  3. Low speed + belted: Main inflator 2 stages and active vent disposal at the end of the crash.
