AUTO HOLD

~3min read

AUTO HOLD keeps the vehicle stationary, even if the brake pedal is not depressed, after the driver has come to a complete stop by pressing the brake pedal.

1. Depress the brake pedal, start the engine, and press the AUTO HOLD button. The white AUTO HOLD indicator will illuminate, indicating that the system is in standby mode.

Before the AUTO HOLD function activates, the driver's door and hood must be closed and the driver's seat belt must be fastened.

2. When the vehicle comes to a complete stop by depressing the brake pedal, the AUTO HOLD indicator will change from white to green, indicating that AUTO HOLD mode is active. The vehicle will remain stationary even if you release the brake pedal.

3. If the EPB is applied, AUTO HOLD is disengaged.

4. If you depress the accelerator pedal when the shift lever is in D (Drive) or manual mode, AUTO HOLD will automatically disengage and the vehicle will start to move. The indicator will change from green to white, indicating that AUTO HOLD is in standby mode, and the EPB is released.

When moving off from AUTO HOLD by depressing the accelerator pedal, always check the area around the vehicle.

Depress the accelerator pedal slowly for a smooth start.

✽ NOTICE

  • AUTO HOLD will not activate under the following conditions (the AUTO HOLD indicator will not turn green and the AUTO HOLD system remains in standby mode):
    - The driver's seat belt is unfastened and the driver's door is open
    - The hood is open
    - The shift lever is in P (Park) or R (Reverse)
    - The EPB is applied
  • For your safety, AUTO HOLD automatically switches to the EPB under any of the following conditions (the AUTO HOLD indicator remains white and the EPB is applied automatically):
    - The driver's seat belt is unfastened and the driver's door is open
    - The hood is open
    - The vehicle has been stopped for more than 10 minutes
    - The vehicle is stopped on a steep slope
    - The vehicle has moved within a few seconds
In these cases, the brake warning light illuminates, the AUTO HOLD indicator changes from green to white, a warning sounds, and a message appears informing you that the EPB has been applied automatically. Before moving off again, depress the brake pedal, check the area around the vehicle, and release the parking brake manually using the EPB switch.
  • If the AUTO HOLD indicator illuminates yellow, the AUTO HOLD function is not operating properly. Have your vehicle taken to an authorized Kia dealer and have the system inspected.

If there is a malfunction in the system's detection of the driver's door or hood opening, AUTO HOLD may not operate properly.

✽ NOTICE

During operation, a clicking sound or electric brake noise may be heard as the EPB is applied or released. These conditions are normal and indicate that the EPB is functioning properly.
