EPB Malfunction Indicator

This indicator illuminates when the Engine Start/Stop button is in the ON position and turns off after approximately 3 seconds if the system is operating normally.
If the EPB warning light stays on, illuminates while driving, or does not illuminate when the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button is turned to the ON position, this indicates a malfunction of the EPB.
In this case, contact an authorized Kia dealer to have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
The EPB warning light may illuminate together with the ESC warning light to indicate that ESC is not operating properly. This does not indicate a malfunction of the EPB.
- The EPB warning light may illuminate if the EPB switch operates abnormally. Turn off the engine and restart it after a few minutes. The warning light will turn off and the EPB switch will operate normally. However, if the EPB warning light remains on, contact an authorized Kia dealer to have the system inspected.
- If the parking brake warning light does not illuminate or flash even though the EPB switch has been pulled up, the EPB is not applied.
- If the parking brake warning light flashes while the EPB warning light is on, press the EPB switch, then pull it up. Press it back to the original position again and pull it back up. If the EPB warning light does not turn off, the system must be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING
Do not use the electronic parking brake while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. Applying the electronic parking brake while the vehicle is moving at normal speed may cause a sudden loss of control of the vehicle. If you must use the electronic parking brake to stop the vehicle, apply the brake with extreme caution.
✽ NOTICE
During emergency braking with the EPB, the parking brake indicator illuminates to show that the system is operating.
If you notice a continuous noise or a burning smell when the EPB is used in emergency braking situations, contact an authorized Kia dealer to have the vehicle inspected.
When the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) does not release
