Description and Operation

Description

The ambient temperature sensor is located at the front of the condenser and detects the outside air temperature. It is a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor, meaning its resistance increases as temperature decreases and decreases as temperature increases.

The sensor is used to control the discharge air temperature, control the air mix door temperature, control the blower speed, control MIX mode, and monitor humidity inside the vehicle.

repair procedures

TEST

  1. Turn the ignition off.

  2. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor.

  3. Check that the resistance of the ambient temperature sensor between terminals "+" and "-" changes when the outside temperature changes.

    SPECIFICATIONS

Outside temperature [°C] Resistance [kΩ] VOLTAGE (V)
    -30 507 4,72
    -20 284,5 4522
    -10 164,2 4225
    0 97,5 3821
    10 (50) 59,6 3322
    20 (68) 37,46 2772
    30 24:18 2.227
    40 16 1735
    50 10,83 1323
  4. If the measured resistance does not meet the specification, replace the ambient temperature sensor with a known good sensor and check operation.

  5. If the problem is not resolved, replace the ambient temperature sensor.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

  2. Remove the front bumper.

(Refer to Body - "Front Bumper")

  3. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor connector (A).

  4. Remove the ambient temperature sensor (A).

  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
