Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
Description and Operation
Description
The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system is designed to avoid a possible collision or minimize the resulting forces if the driver brakes incorrectly, brakes late, or does not brake at all, in order to avoid a collision.
The system detects risk factors on the road using the forward collision sensor and warns the driver. Then emergency braking is activated to avoid the collision or minimize the collision speed.
The following describes the control panel.
Based on the analyzed data, it can be confirmed that objects (vehicles and pedestrians) are protected by the FCA system.
The amount of deceleration depends on the existing speed, distance and presence/absence of a vehicle ahead, as calculated from the data.
Transmission of the calculated "required deceleration" to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (CAN communication).
After calculating the required torque, the ESC performs automatic control to achieve the "required deceleration" (via CAN communication).
HOW IT WORKS

※ The displayed value changes depending on vehicle speed.
Step 1: A visual alarm (display) and an audible warning will be issued when a hazard is detected.
Step 2: Engine torque is reduced and FCA is activated when the risk of collision is high.
Step 3: Emergency braking is activated when a collision is unavoidable.
After the vehicle stops: press the brake pedal for a specified time, then release the brake pedal.

TEST
ON/OFF switch for the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) function in the USM (User Setting Mode). Factory setting: ON.
When the ignition is turned on, the system is ON by default. When the ignition is turned on again, the setting made by the driver will be erased.
If the ESC function is turned off, the FCA function is also turned off.
ON/OFF switch for the FCA function in the USM (User Setting Mode). Factory setting: ON.
Illuminates when the ignition is on, but driver settings are erased when the ignition is turned on again.
When ESC is turned off, the FCA system is also turned off.
expansion
Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Remove the front bumper cover.
(Refer to Body - "Front Bumper")
Disconnect the FCA radar connector (A), then remove the FCA radar unit (B).

LDWS Camera
Unlike SCC (Smart Cruise Control), the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) also operates when the vehicle is stationary. Therefore, the system uses the Fusion Target, which combines the functions of radar and camera.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Remove the camera.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "Lane Departure Warning (LDW) Unit".)
Installation
FCA Radar
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
Perform FCA variant coding.

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system is designed to avoid a collision or reduce the force of impact when the driver brakes incorrectly, brakes late, or does not brake at all to avoid a collision.
For the radar sensor to operate correctly, it must be parallel to the vehicle's direction of travel. For this reason, radar sensor alignment is performed if the sensor has been removed and installed or replaced with a new one.
If sensor alignment is not performed in the above cases, the Smart Cruise Control may not operate correctly.

Park the vehicle on a level surface.

Mark the center point on the upper part of the windshield (A).

Mark the center of the emblem (A).

SCC calibration laser [SST No.: 09964-C1200] on tripod [SST No.: 09964-C1300].

Using the SCC calibration reflector [SST No.: 09964-C1100] (A), adjust the wire (D) so that the center of the emblem (B) and the center points on the ground (C) are perpendicular to each other.

Install the vertical/horizontal laser [Special Service Tool No.: 09964-C1200] (A) at a distance of at least 12 ft (3.8 m) from the front of the vehicle.

Using the vertical/horizontal laser, align the vertical laser line (C) [SST No.: 09964-C1200] with (A) and (B).

Remove the SCC calibration laser [SST No.: 09964-C1200] (B) from the tripod. Remove [SST No.: 09964-C1300] (A).

Install the reflector [SST No.: 09964-C1100] (B) on the tripod [SST No.: 09964-C1300].

Align the vertical weight (V) of the SCC calibration reflector [SST No.: 09964-C1100] with point (C) (A).

Using the level vial (B) of the tripod [SST No.: 09964-C1300] (A), adjust the reflector horizontally.

Visually inspect the radar sensor and surface again for the following.
Connect the KDS to the vehicle DLC and start the sensor alignment.
After selecting the correct vehicle model, select "FCA Orientation" in the KDS menu.

Align the sensor according to the KDS monitor display.

If there is a problem with sensor alignment, check the alignment conditions. Turn the ignition off, then perform the sensor alignment again.
