Troubleshooting
Engine Overheats
| TEST | Measurement | |
| VISUAL INSPECTION | Check the coolant level in the expansion tank. | Add coolant and check again. |
| Remove the radiator cap and check the coolant for contamination. |
Replace the coolant and check again.
| Check for leaks and loose coolant hose clamps (radiator hose, heater hose, oil cooler hose, etc.). | Check again after reinstalling hoses and clamps. | |
| Check the water inlet housing for leaks. | After replacing the O-ring, check for leaks again. | |
| Check again after tightening to the specified torque. | ||
| Inspect the drive belt (for proper operation of the coolant pump). | Adjust the drive belt tension or replace the drive belt. | |
| Check the coolant pump assembly seal for leaks. | After replacing the gasket, check for leaks again. | |
| Check again after tightening to the specified torque. | ||
| Check the loose coolant temperature sensor, cooling fan connector and terminal. | Connect the loose connector correctly. | |
| If the connector terminal is damaged, replace the relevant part. | ||
| Check the cooling fan operation. - Check operation by turning the A/C heater control on and off. |
Check the ground cable installation distance.
| diagnostic scan tool | Check the self-diagnosis code using KDS/GDS. | Check the coolant temperature sensor, wiring, connectors, etc. |
| Component Inspection | Check the coolant pump impeller. | Replace the coolant pump. |
| Check for debris and the condition of the thermostat. | Check the assembly after removing foreign matter. | |
| Check the thermostat for sticking. - Immerse the thermostat in water above 95 °C and let it heat for at least 3 minutes to check valve lift. |
Check the valve lift. - If valve lift is below specification or the valve is stuck, replace the thermostat. |
