Removal, Installation and Bleeding

  1. Make sure the engine and radiator have cooled sufficiently to touch by hand.

  2. Unscrew the radiator cap (A).

  3. Remove the engine undercover.

(Refer to Engine and Transaxle - "Under Hood")

  4. Loosen the drain plug (A) and drain the engine coolant.

  5. Drain the coolant and tighten the radiator drain plug.

  6. After draining the coolant, clean the reservoir tank.

  7. Fill the radiator with coolant through the radiator cap, and install the cap.

8th.

Start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature. Wait until the cooling fans have switched on several times.

Increase engine speed to help expel trapped air. Stop the engine.

  1. Allow the engine to cool.

  2. Repeat steps 1 through 9 until the drained coolant is clean.

  3. Add a mixture of coolant and water (45 - 50 %; except North America, Europe and China: 55 - 60 %). Slowly pour through the radiator cap. Squeeze the upper and lower radiator hoses together to bleed air.

  4. Start the engine and bleed the cooling system.

When the radiator fan is running and coolant is circulating, add coolant through the radiator cap.

  5. Repeat step 12 until the cooling fan has cycled 3-5 times and the cooling system is sufficiently bled.

  6. Remove the radiator cap and reserve tank cap. Add coolant up to the "MAX" (or "F") mark.

  7. Let the vehicle idle until the cooling fan has cycled 2-3 times.

  8. Stop the engine and wait for the coolant to cool down.

  9. Repeat steps 11 through 16 until the coolant level stops dropping and bleed the cooling system.

    Coolant capacity approx. 5.5 L

TEST

radiator hoses

  1. Inspect the radiator hoses for the following:

    1. Poor connection

    2. leaks

    3. cracks

    4. damage

    5. loose connections

    6. Chafing

    7. deterioration

coolant level

  1. Check the coolant level in the reserve tank. Make sure it is between the "F" and "L" marks.

  2. If the coolant level in the reserve tank is below the "L" mark, add the appropriate amount of coolant to a level between the "L" and "F" marks, then check the cooling system for leaks.

coolant condition

  1. Remove the radiator cap.

  2. Check for excessive rust or scale build-up around the radiator cap and filler neck. Also check that the coolant does not contain oil residue.

If necessary, clean the coolant passages and replace the coolant.

  3. Install the radiator cap.
