Maintenance

Vorsichtsmaßnahmen beim Austausch der Glühlampen

~4min read

Keep bulbs with the appropriate rating on hand for emergencies. For more information, see "Bulbs" on page 9-04.

When replacing bulbs, first turn off the engine in a safe place, firmly apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

WARNING

Arbeiten an der Beleuchtung

Before starting work on the lighting, firmly apply the parking brake, make sure the ignition key is turned to the LOCK position, and turn off the vehicle lights. This is to prevent the vehicle from moving, burning your fingers, or receiving an electric shock.

Use only bulbs with the specified wattage.

WARNING

Make sure to replace a blown bulb with a bulb of the same wattage. Otherwise, serious wiring damage and possibly fire may occur.

WARNING

If you do not have the required tools, the correct bulbs, and sufficient experience, contact a repair shop. Kia recommends contacting a Kia dealer/service partner.

In many cases, replacing bulbs on your vehicle is not easy, as other components must be removed first to access the bulb. In particular, when the headlight must be removed to replace the bulb(s) in it, removing and installing the headlight may damage the vehicle.

WARNING

  • Using non-genuine parts and low-quality bulbs may cause the fuse to blow, malfunctions, and further wiring damage.
  • Do not install additional lamps or LEDs in the vehicle. Installing additional lights may cause lamp malfunctions and flickering. It may also damage the fuse box and other wiring components.

• Lamp malfunction due to wiring faults

The headlights, taillights, and fog lights come on when the headlight switch is set to ON, and do not come on when the taillight or fog light switch is set to ON. This may be caused by a power supply fault or a malfunction of the vehicle's electrical control system. Have the system checked by a repair shop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.

• Fehlfunktion von Lampenteilen aufgrund der Stabilisierung des elektrischen Steuersystems

A normally functioning lamp may flicker temporarily. This temporary flickering is caused by the stabilization function of the vehicle's electrical control system. If the lamp operates normally, the vehicle does not need to be checked. However, if the lamp goes out or continues to flicker after temporary flickering, the system should be checked by a repair shop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.

WARNING

  • If the bulb or bulb socket is removed, or the lamp's main functions are disconnected, the fuse box electronics can detect the malfunction. Lamp malfunctions are therefore recorded as a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) in the fuse box memory.
  • It is normal for a working lamp to flash temporarily. This is caused by the stabilization function of the vehicle's electronic control. If the lamp lights normally after flashing temporarily, there is no problem with the vehicle. However, if the lamp continues to flash or stays off, there may be a malfunction in the electronic control unit. In this case, have the vehicle inspected immediately by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.

WARNING

After an accident or after reinstalling the headlamp assembly, have the headlamps aimed by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.

WARNING

After driving in heavy rain or after washing the vehicle, the headlamp and tail lamp lenses may fog up. The cause is the difference between the outside temperature and the temperature inside the lamp. This is similar to fogging of the windows (inside) in rainy weather and is therefore not a malfunction. If water enters a lamp, have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.

WARNING

When traveling in countries with other traffic rules (Europe only)

The light distribution of the low beam is asymmetric. When traveling to a country with a different driving direction, the asymmetric beam may dazzle oncoming drivers. To prevent this, the ECE regulation requires several technical solutions (e.g. automatic switching system, masking, glare shield). These headlamps are designed so they do not dazzle oncoming traffic. Therefore, it is not necessary to change the headlamps when driving in a left-hand traffic country.
