Fuel Pressure Inspection (Low-Pressure System)

Fuel Pressure Inspection

  1. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line. (Refer to Fuel System - "Release Residual Pressure in Fuel Line")
  2. Install the Special Service Tool (SST).
    1. Disconnect the fuel feed hose from the injection pipe.
    2. Install the special service tool for measuring fuel pressure between the fuel supply tube and the fuel feed tube (see illustration below).
  3. Inspect for fuel leaks at the connections along the fuel supply tube, discharge tube and SST components with the ignition on.
  4. Measure the fuel pressure.
    1. Start the engine and measure fuel pressure at idle.

      Fuel pressure: 480–520 kPa (4.9–5.3 kgf/cm², 69.6–75.4 psi)

    2. Stop the engine, then check the change in the fuel pressure gauge reading. Specification: the gauge reading should be maintained for approximately 5 minutes after the engine is stopped.

    3. Turn the ignition off.
  5. Release the residual pressure in the fuel line. (Refer to Fuel System - "Release Residual Pressure in Fuel Line")
  6. End of test
    1. Remove the special service tool (SST) from the fuel feed hose and the injection pipe.
    2. Connect the fuel feed hose and the injection pipe.

Release Residual Fuel Line Pressure

Release Fuel Line Residual Pressure

  1. Turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the fuel pump fuse (A).
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4. Run the engine for approximately 1 minute to reduce the pressure in the low pressure line.
  5. Turn the engine off.
  6. Disconnect the low-pressure fuel line quick connector at the high-pressure pump. Use a shop towel to cover the opening and catch spilled fuel when removing the fuel line.
  7. Start the engine and let it idle until the engine stops. At this point, the pressure should be below 30 psi.
  8. Continue with the service or repair. Use a shop towel to cover the opening and collect any spilled fuel when opening the high-pressure system.
  9. Reinstall / reconnect all components in the reverse order of removal. Start the engine and check for proper operation, and make sure there are no fuel leaks.
  10. After completion, clear the DTC using the KDS diagnostic tool (the procedure described above will set a DTC).
