Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Remove the roof trim assembly.

(Refer to Body - "Roof Trim Assembly")

  3. Remove the window regulator (A) after loosening the mounting screws.

  4. Ground the terminals as shown in the table below, and check that the sunroof unit operates as shown in the table below.

  5. Perform these input tests at the connector. If any test indicates a problem, locate and repair the cause, then recheck the system. If all input tests show normal results, the sunroof motor is faulty; replace it.

    Terminal Test
    Condition
    Test: Expected Result
3 IG2 ON Check voltage to ground:
    Battery voltage should be present.
    1 Under all
    conditions
    Check continuity to ground:
    Continuity should be present.
    6 Under all
    conditions
    Check voltage to ground:
    Battery voltage should be present.

Adjustment

Sunroof Reset

Whenever the battery is disconnected or discharged, or when you use the emergency handle to operate the sunroof, the sunroof system must be reset as follows:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

  2. Depending on the sunroof position, do the following.

    1. If the sunroof is fully closed or tilted:

Press the TILT button until the sunroof is fully raised.

    2. If the sunroof opens by sliding:

Press and hold the CLOSE button for more than 5 seconds until the sunroof is fully closed.

Press the TILT button until the sunroof is fully raised.

  3. Release the TILT button.

  4. Press and hold the TILT button again until the sunroof returns to the TILT home position after it has been raised slightly above the maximum TILT position.

When this is complete, the roof system is reset.

Overheat Protection of Motor

To protect the sunroof motor from overheating during continuous operation, the sunroof ECU controls the motor operating time and cooling time as follows:

  1. The sunroof ECU determines the motor operating time.

  2. The motor can operate continuously during the 1st cycle.

  3. The motor that operates continuously stops after the 1st operation.

  4. Then the motor does not operate during the 1st cooling time.

  5. The motor operates for the 2nd operating period while the motor continues to run after the 1st cooling period.

  6. The motor that operates continuously stops after the 2nd operation.

  7. The motor does not operate during the 2nd cooling time.

  8. The motor repeats the 2nd operating time and 2nd cooling time while continuous operation continues.

    • If the motor is not operated continuously, the operating time limit for overheat protection is increased.

    • The engine operating time is reset to "0" if the battery or fuse is reconnected after being disconnected, discharged, or blown.
