The vehicle security system sounds an audible and visual alarm if someone opens a door, the trunk lid or the hood while the system is armed. However, it is not a motion sensor that activates when the vehicle moves or vibrates.

The system is designed to deter thieves, but it cannot prevent theft of the vehicle or in all cases prevent theft of items inside or outside the vehicle. Always lock your vehicle, even if you are parking it for a short time. Never leave the Intelligent Key in the vehicle, and always lock the vehicle when leaving it unattended. For your safety, park in areas that are as secure and well lit as possible.

Many devices available at automotive accessory shops and specialty stores provide additional protection, such as accessory locks, identification markers, or tracking devices.

Your NISSAN dealer can also provide these types of devices. Check with your insurance company to see if you qualify for discounts for installing these anti-theft devices.

How to activate the vehicle security system

  1. Close all windows of your vehicle.

(The system can be activated even if the windows are open.)

  2. Remove the Intelligent Key from the vehicle.
  3. Close all doors, the hood, and the trunk lid or liftgate. Lock all doors. The doors can be locked using the Intelligent Key, the door handle request switch (depending on vehicle equipment), the power door lock switch, or the mechanical key.
  4. Make sure the security indicator lights up.

This indicator stays on for about 30 seconds. This indicates that the vehicle security system is pre-armed.

The system is automatically armed after about 30 seconds. The security indicator then starts blinking once every three seconds. If the driver's door is unlocked using the key or remote keyless entry transmitter, or the ignition switch is placed in the ACC (accessory) or ON position during the 30-second pre-arming period, the system will not arm.

  • Even if the driver and passengers are in the vehicle, the system will arm if all doors, the trunk lid, and the hood are closed and locked and the ignition switch is in the LOCK position. The system is deactivated when you place the ignition switch in the ACC (accessory) or ON position.

Vehicle security system activation

The alarm triggered by the vehicle security system includes the following:

  • The headlights flash and the horn sounds intermittently.
  • The alarm automatically shuts off after a certain period of time. However, if another intrusion occurs, it will sound again. The alarm is canceled if you unlock the driver's door or the trunk lid with the key, or if you press the unlock buttoncléon the
    Intelligent Key.

The alarm is triggered if:

  • the door or the trunk lid is opened without the key or the Intelligent Key (even if the door is unlocked using the interior lock control).

Canceling the alarm

The alarm is canceled only if you unlock the driver's door or the trunk lid with the key, if you press the unlock buttonou sion the Intelligent Key,
or if you press the request switch (depending on vehicle equipment) on the driver's or passenger's door while the Intelligent Key is within range of the door handle.
