Essential equipment
diagnostic tool
  • Lock the control unit using the diagnostic tool:
  • Select and confirm the system to diagnose: "airbag".
  • Select the "repair" menu.
  • Select the "other learning" command.
  • Confirm line VP006 "control unit lock".
  • In the "status" menu, check that the control unit is locked. Status ET073 "control unit locked by tool" must be active and the airbag warning light on the instrument panel must be on (new control units are supplied in this state).
Note:
  • To unlock the airbag control unit, use the same method and confirm line VP007 "control unit unlock". Status ET073 "control unit locked by tool" must no longer be active and the airbag warning light on the instrument panel must go out.
  • New control units are sold "locked".
  • If these systems malfunction after a collision, use the diagnostic tool to check that no fault was present before the collision.
  • After locking following a collision, check the firing circuits powered by command SC004 "read crash contexts" on the diagnostic tool.
