Programmed Restraint System (SRP)

Généralités
  1. Front buckle pretensioners (driver and passenger)
  2. Pyrotechnic rear seat belt retractors (outboard seats)
  3. Front lap-type pretensioners (driver and passenger) on 5-door saloon
  4. Anti-submarining airbags (driver and passenger) on 3-door saloon
  5. Front airbags with two inflators (two-volume)
    Généralités
  6. Front seat-back thorax side airbags
  7. Curtain-type side airbags
  8. Rear thorax side airbags (if fitted)

These vehicles are fitted with a passive safety system of the SRP (Programmed Restraint System) type, consisting of:

  • front buckle pretensioners (driver and passenger),
  • pyrotechnic rear seat belt retractors (outboard seats),
  • front lap-type pretensioners (driver and passenger) on 5-door saloon,
  • anti-submarining airbags (driver and passenger) on 3-door saloon,
  • front airbags with two inflators (two-volume),
  • an ECU (75-pin) with two impact sensors,
  • front seat-back thorax side airbags,
  • curtain-type side airbags,
  • rear thorax side airbags (if fitted).
  • of a driver seat position sensor,
  • of a front passenger airbag deactivation switch,
  • of a system fault warning light,
  • of an airbag deactivation confirmation light.

REPAIR PRECAUTIONS

IMPORTANT
  • All work on airbag and pretensioner systems must be carried out by qualified personnel who have received training.
  • Never handle pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners or airbags) near a heat source or flame; there is a risk of deployment.
  • Airbags include a pyrotechnic gas generator, an igniter and an inflatable bag. These components must never be separated.
  • Before removing any component of the safety system, check the airbag control unit using the diagnostic tool. When this function is activated, all firing circuits are disabled and the airbag warning light on the dashboard comes on (ignition on).
  • Any work, even minor, on the firing circuits of pyrotechnic components is prohibited.

When an airbag or pretensioner is deployed, the airbag control unit locks permanently and the "airbag fault" warning light comes on on the dashboard. The airbag control unit must be replaced (some components lose their rated characteristics after the firing energy has passed through them).

After refitting all parts, carry out a check using the diagnostic tool.

If everything is correct, unlock the control unit; otherwise, refer to the diagnosis document.

IMPORTANT
  • Always refer to the Destruction Procedure before scrapping a pyrotechnic system that has not been deployed.
  • Control units and impact sensors contain sensitive components. Do not drop them.
  • Do not fit seat covers to the front seats (except RENAULT Boutique specific products).
  • Do not place any object in the airbag deployment zone.
  • When working underneath the vehicle (on the bodywork, sill, etc.), always lock the airbag control unit using the diagnostic tool and switch off the ignition.
  • For specific procedures for removing and refitting seat trim, refer to the bodywork repair manual.
  • Pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners and airbags) must always be checked using the diagnostic tool:
  • following an accident in which no deployment occurred,
  • following theft or attempted theft of the vehicle,
  • before selling a used vehicle.

Following an impact:

  • firing of the front belt pretensioner requires replacement of the seat belt if it was fastened, and of the seat frame (belt pretensioners are supplied in series),
  • firing of the rear pyrotechnic retractors requires replacement of the complete "seat belt - pyrotechnic retractor" assembly (pyrotechnic retractors are supplied in series),
  • firing of the driver front airbag requires replacement of the steering wheel and its fixing bolt,
  • firing of the front passenger airbag requires replacement of the dashboard,
  • firing of the seat side airbag requires replacement of the seat frame,
  • firing of the anti-submarining airbag requires replacement of the seat frame,
  • firing of the curtain airbag requires fitting the repair plate and replacing the deflector; see Repair Plate.
