The front passenger airbag is fitted with a two-stage inflatable bag (small and large volume).
It is fixed under the dashboard, facing the front passenger.
REMOVAL
- Disconnect the battery.
- Before removing any component of the safety system, lock the airbag control unit using the diagnostic tool. When this function is active, all firing circuits are inhibited and the airbag warning light on the dashboard comes on (ignition on).
- Never handle pyrotechnic systems (pretensioner or airbag) near a heat source or flame, as there is a risk of accidental deployment.
The airbag control unit MUST be locked before starting removal. Locking the airbag control unit also unlocks the electric steering column lock.
- Remove the dashboard (Instrument panel chapter, Dashboard, page 83A-1).

- Remove the four airbag mounting screws (1).
- Whenever the passenger airbag module is removed, the sheet-metal nuts securing the module to the dashboard must be replaced.
- For disposal of an undeployed airbag, (see Airbags and Pretensioners chapter, Airbag and Pretensioner Control Unit, page 88C-39).

INSTALLATION
WARNING- When the front passenger airbag has deployed, certain parts must be replaced (Airbag and pretensioners chapter, Airbag and pretensioner control unit, page 88C-6).
- Whenever the passenger airbag is removed, the sheet-metal nuts securing the module to the dashboard must be replaced.
- Refit in the reverse order of removal.
- Tighten the airbag mounting screws to torque (2 N.m).
Check the airbag ECU using the diagnostic tool.
- If everything is correct, unlock the airbag control unit; otherwise, refer to the diagnostic manual.
