Precautions When Handling the Plastic Pulley
Avoid applying physical force to the plastic pulley. If the pulley has been subjected to a drop or impact, do not use it even if it is not visibly damaged.
Be careful not to drop the pulley onto the floor or a bench.
Be careful not to apply external force or strike the pulley during movement or use.
Be careful not to apply force to the pulley.
If the compressor is locked up, run the engine at idle and let the air conditioner operate for a few minutes, then stop the engine.
Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Recover the refrigerant using a recovery/recharging station.
Remove the engine room cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Cover")
Loosen the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
Remove the bolts, then disconnect the suction line (A) and discharge line (B) from the compressor.
Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 11.8 N·m
Plug or cover the lines immediately after disconnecting them to prevent moisture and dust from entering.
Disconnect the compressor switch connector (A).
Remove the compressor (A) by loosening the mounting bolts.
Inspect the clutch limiter and hub assembly (A) for limiter breakage and other damage. If damaged, replace the assembly.
Check the bearing clearance of the pulley (B) by turning the pulley by hand. If the pulley is noisy or has excessive play or drag, replace the assembly.
Inspection of Compressor with External Control Valve (GDS)
Compressor type: Fixed displacement compressor, externally controlled valve, internally controlled valve. For the fixed type and internally controlled valve, compressor operation can be checked by the clutch noise. However, for the externally controlled valve, this cannot be checked this way because there is no clutch. Therefore, the ECV should be checked using GDS as shown below.
Connect GDS to the vehicle and select "A/C Compressor Test (ECV Type)". [ECV1]
Prepare the vehicle according to the GDS instructions on the monitor. (Turn off only the A/C switch) [ECV2] [ECV3]
Before inspecting the ECV, check whether any other DTCs related to the compressor are detected. If yes, resolve that problem first. If not, press the "OK" button to continue.
Do not continue the inspection if the following DTCs are detected: B1241, B1242, B1672, B1685, B1686, B1687.
[ECV4]
Start the inspection [ECV5] [ECV6]
Check whether the condenser fan operates when the condition changes to "ECV operating".
The pressure relief valve will operate if the condenser fan does not run due to excessive compressor pressure. This allows the A/C system to release excess pressure by discharging refrigerant and oil. (Closed when relieved) ? Add refrigerant and oil after the pressure relief valve has operated. ? Noise may be heard when the pressure relief valve operates.
Check the inspection result and, if it reads "Check", press "Check Details". Follow the instructions and re-inspect the ECV from the first step. [ECV7] [ECV8]
Installation
Make sure the compressor mounting bolt (A) is threaded correctly. Tighten the mounting bolts in the specified tightening sequence.
If you are installing a new compressor, drain all the refrigerant oil from the removed compressor and measure its volume. Subtract the volume of drained oil from the initial capacity. The result is the amount of compressor oil that must be drained from the new compressor (through the suction port).
Replace the O-rings with new ones at each fitting and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil before installation. Be sure to use the correct O-rings for R-134a to prevent leakage.
To avoid contamination, do not return spilled oil to the container, and never mix it with other refrigerant oils.
Immediately after use, close the container with its cap to prevent moisture absorption.
After installing the compressor, visually inspect for problems (cracks, leaks, etc.).
