Fuel Lines and Connections
GENERAL
At some point you may need to inspect the exhaust system or replace certain parts (such as exhaust pipe hangers), which requires raising the vehicle. When working under the vehicle, always inspect the condition of the fuel lines and all joints and connections.
Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. Check hoses and pipes for cracks, kinks, and deformation.
2. Make sure the fuel lines are securely attached to the underbody and check the condition of the mounting clips.
3. Check the connections between hoses and metal pipe fittings for leaks, and check the condition of the hose clamps.
Replacement
PROCEDURE
1. New fuel line components must be made of the same material as the parts being replaced. Do not install hoses or pipes made of materials other than those recommended, or not designed to withstand fuel exposure. Otherwise, fuel leaks and a fire hazard may result.

2. Always mark the relative positions of pipes (1) and hoses (2) before disassembling the fuel line or disconnecting any component. Note the original position of clamps (3) and cotter pins so they can be restored exactly during assembly. Follow the routing and attachment sequence for hoses on metal pipe fittings.
3. Before disconnecting the fuel line, relieve fuel system pressure, remove the fuel filler cap, and disconnect the battery ground cable. Wrap the connection being disassembled with a rag to absorb spilled fuel.
