Fuel injection system

Air Flow Sensor Plate

~2min read

PROCEDURE

The lift height of plate 18 (see figure K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System Schematic) depends on the amount of air supplied to the engine cylinders: the greater the air flow, the higher the plate rises. In doing so, lever 24 moves plunger 22 upward through lever 25, increasing the amount of fuel supplied to the cylinders. When the air flow decreases, plate 18 lowers and plunger 22 moves downward accordingly, reducing the fuel supply. For proper mixture formation, plate 18 must be centered exactly in the venturi. To adjust the plate position, proceed as follows: PROCEDURE 1. Remove air duct 8 (see figure Air Cleaner and Intake Manifold with Fuel Injection System) together with the corrugated connector by loosening clamp 6. 2. If plate 18 (see figure K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System Schematic) is off-center, loosen the plate mounting screw. Insert a 0.1 mm feeler gauge around the plate, center it and tighten the screw. 3. Lift plate 18 and quickly release it to its original position. There must be no resistance when moving downward. If resistance is felt, the air flow sensor is faulty and must be replaced. 4. If resistance is felt when the plate moves upward, remove fuel distributor 12 (see figure K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System Components), take out plunger 14 and wash it in gasoline. If this does not help and resistance is still felt when the plate moves upward, replace the fuel distributor. 5. Relieve the pressure in the fuel distributor as described earlier (see step 4 of subsection 3.2.6). Then check the position of plate 18 (see figure K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System Schematic) in the venturi. The upper edge of the plate must be level with the edge of the venturi. The plate may be below the venturi edge by no more than 0.5 mm.

6. If the plate is lower or higher than the venturi edge, adjust the plate height. To do this, lift the plate and bend the wire bracket located beneath it, as shown in the figure. 7. After adjustment, check the idle speed and the CO content in the exhaust gas.
