Checking and Replacing Injectors

~1min read

PROCEDURE 1. Remove the injector with its rubber O-ring by pulling it upward by the fuel line union nut. Cover the opening in the cylinder head. 2. Inspect the injector O-ring. If it has cracks or signs of compression, replace it. 3. If no special equipment is available for testing the injector, check it as follows. Hold the injector over a glass container, start the engine and let it run at idle on three cylinders. The injector must spray fuel in a correct cone pattern. If not, replace the injector. 4. Relieve the pressure in the fuel lines by loosening the fuel line bracket bolt at cold start valve 21 (see figure K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System Components). Collect the spilled fuel with a rag and tighten the bolt. 5. Unscrew the nuts and disconnect the fuel line from the injector.

6. Lubricate the injector O-ring with gasoline, install the new injector with its O-ring and connect the fuel line to it.
