Steering Wheel Play Inspection (Vehicles with Power Steering)

VORGEHENSWEISE

1. Start the engine with the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position. With the front wheels in the straight-ahead position, measure the force required at the steering wheel to turn the wheels to the left and right.

Force: 5 N

2. With the front wheels in the straight-ahead position, gently turn the steering wheel left and right until resistance is felt, and measure the steering play. Measure the play at the outer circumference of the steering wheel.
Steering wheel play: 0–30 mm

3. If the play exceeds the specification, the steering shaft universal joints or the steering gear are worn.
