Steering Wheel Turning Force Inspection (Vehicles with Power Steering)

VORGEHENSWEISE

1. With the vehicle on a firm, level surface, set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
2. Increase the engine speed to 1,000 rpm.

After the inspection, leave the engine running at idle speed.

3. Hook a spring scale onto the steering wheel spoke at the point farthest from the center of the wheel. With the front wheels set in the straight-ahead position, measure the force required to turn the steering wheel to the left and to the right.
Steering effort: 34.3 N
4. Check that no excessive effort is required when turning the steering wheel.
5. If the measured effort exceeds the specified value, perform the following checks:
– Check the lower arm ball joint dust covers and the tie rod end dust covers for damage.
– Check the tie rod end ball joint starting torque.
– Check the lower arm ball joint starting torque.
