MPI and MPFI Injection Systems

Exhaust Gas Analysis

~1min read

CO content is normally not checked at home, since this procedure is mandatory during the annual emissions inspection. In addition, special equipment is required.

Check is performed only after the fuel injection system has been placed in the so-called basic setting using fault reader V.A.G 1551. This means that certain control functions (for example, lambda control) are disabled to obtain reasonable, comparable values.

PROCEDURE

Connect the exhaust gas analyzer to the right front measuring tube in the engine compartment. Make sure the connection is tight.

Start the engine and let it run at idle.

The meter must read 0.15 – 1.0 % CO (2.6 L engine) or 0.3 – 1.2 % CO (2.8 L engine).

On models with the 2.8 L engine, the CO content can be adjusted using the adjusting screw on the air flow meter.

Models with the 2.6 L engine have no adjustment option. If the measured CO content is out of specification, find the cause using the fault memory.
