Checking Individual Components

On the 2.8-liter engine, the air flow meter (arrow) is located at the rear right of the engine compartment, flange-connected to the air cleaner housing.

With connector (1) disconnected, check the power supply to the fuel injectors (2) using an LED voltmeter. When the engine is cranked with the starter, the LEDs in the voltmeter should flicker. Otherwise, there is no power supply.
Different designs of the idle air control valve. The 2.6-liter engine is shown on the left, the 2.8-liter engine on the right.

The engine coolant temperature sensor for the ignition/injection system (screwed into the cooling system hose) is located at the rear left of the engine (arrow). The diagram shows the sensor resistance as a function of temperature.

Only the 2.6-liter engine is equipped with an intake air temperature sensor (3). It is located at the rear right of the engine near the idle air control valve (1) and the fuel pressure regulator (2). The diagram shows the sensor resistance as a function of intake air temperature.

The following sections describe the testing of fuel injection system components, where this can be performed with basic tools.
