Idle speed control valve

~1min read

MPI only

The idle speed control valve on the 2.8L engine is located on the right side of the throttle body. Check it as follows:

PROCEDURE

Disconnect the idle speed control valve connector and connect a precision ohmmeter to both valve terminals.

The meter should read 7—11 Ω. If not, the valve is faulty.

Further functional check: Remove the idle speed control valve; the connector remains connected. Move the rotating plunger in the air passage opening of the valve to the "open" or "closed" position (do not use metal tools!).

Turn the ignition on and observe the rotating plunger: it should move to approximately the middle position.

Check that the rotating plunger moves freely: it can be moved by briefly turning the removed valve.

In addition, the plunger must show no signs of friction or grooves.
