Removal
PROCEDURE
Open the trunk lid.
Pull back the trunk liner slightly above the left rear light cluster.
Disconnect the plug connection of the trunk lid wiring and pass the plugs through the rubber grommet in the body.
If the vehicle has central locking, disconnect the hose to the lock actuator at the hinges of the trunk lid.
On both sides, unhook and remove the retaining clips from the gas struts. Then pry the gas struts off the ball studs.
Supporting the trunk lid with two people, unscrew the two bolts in the hinges on both sides.
Remove the trunk lid from the hinges.
If necessary, the hinges can also be disconnected from the body.
Adjusting the Trunk Lid
Sedan
PROCEDURE
Adjust the lid to obtain equal clearance between the right and left body panels and the trunk lid (approx. 4 – 5 mm). Near the rear window, the distance to the lid must also be equal on the right and left sides.
Adjust after loosening the trunk lid hinge mounting bolts.
In addition, the lid must be flush in height with the fenders. This can be achieved after loosening the hinge mounting bolts on the side panel.
If the trunk lid rattles or does not close properly, the stopper buffers on the right and left at the top of the side section can be adjusted.
Loosen the mounting bolt, move it up or down, then retighten. The stopper buffer is correctly installed if it contacts the closed lid without tension.
Check the fit and closing of the trunk lid. If necessary, adjust the trunk lock striker plate.
The headlight unit in the lid should be approximately 8 mm from the headlights in the side section. This can be achieved by moving the headlight unit in its elongated holes.
Removing the Trunk Lock
Sedan
PROCEDURE
Open the trunk lid.
Remove the interior trim panel under the trunk lock release button.
Removing the button: move the retaining clip on the operating rod aside and remove the rod.
Disconnect the electrical connectors of the central locking microswitch.
Unscrew the two nuts and remove the release button inward together with the lock cylinders.
Removing the lock assembly: disconnect the operating rods from the release button (move the retaining clip aside) and disconnect the electrical connector.
Unscrew the two hex nuts from the underside of the lock. Remove the lock downward.
When installing the lock assembly, adjust the length of the operating rods to the release button.
Slide the sliding sleeve in the middle of the connecting rod back so that the rod halves are freely inserted into each other.
With the trunk lid open, set the lock latch to the "closed" position.
Insert a 6 mm drill bit into the hole of the lock assembly to lock the latch.
In this position, secure the threaded sections of the rod halves together and lock them with the sliding sleeve.
Remove the drill bit.
