Moldings
Removing the Front Moldings
PROCEDURE
Fender molding (front): remove the wheel arch trim.
From the inside of the fender, unscrew the hex nut.
Slide the molding rearward and remove it from the fender.
Side molding at the rear (rear fender): heat the molding with a hot air gun to approximately 40°C.
Then remove the molding from the retaining stud using a screwdriver wrapped in a cloth.
When installing, insert the molding into the retaining clip and additionally bond it (as described below or in the note).
Door moldings: separate the trim from the adhesive layer.
In most cases this can only be done by heating the molding with a hot air gun to approximately 40°C, but even then the trim often cannot be removed undamaged. Therefore, provide a new one.
If the vehicle has new paint: clean the door area where the molding will be bonded with gasoline and silicone remover.
On a door with original paint, remove the adhesive residue, leaving approximately 1 mm thickness. This residue is necessary as a base for the new adhesive material.
Take care not to damage the paint finish.
Clean the door area where the molding will be bonded.
Wipe the plastic parts in the bonding area with cleaner D 009 400 01 and wipe dry.
Apply primer to the metal (only if the metal has new paint) and plastic body parts in the bonding area. Use primer D 009 200 02 for metal parts and D 009 600 for plastic.
Apply adhesive sealant AKD 476 KD5 05 from PUR to the back of the moldings. A layer of adhesive 4 mm thick in the middle of the molding is sufficient.
Place the molding on the door, align it and press it firmly into place in the bonding area, especially the ends.
Curing time at 20°C: 4 hours.
Tip: If the procedure described in the Audi instructions seems too complicated, you can proceed as follows: apply a thick layer of clear silicone sealant to the back of the molding. Press the molding onto the cleaned door trim panel and remove excess sealant. Secure the molding with adhesive tape until the sealant cures (approximately one day). In this case the molding will not hold as well as the original, but it will still withstand an automatic car wash.
Lower Protective Trim
A thin protective trim runs along the lower edge of the doors and the adjacent metal parts on the applicable vehicle version. The removal procedure is shown below.
PROCEDURE
The trim sections on the front fenders and rear side sections are bonded in place. For removal and installation, refer to "Removing the Molding".
Disconnect the front and rear clips from the door moldings and, with the door open, remove the molding from the pin (pull out).
