Inspection of Drive Shaft Boots

~1min read

The drive shaft joints are protected from moisture and dirt by rubber boots (gaiters). Therefore, regularly check these boots for cracks.

PROCEDURE

Raise the vehicle and secure it, depending on which drive wheel is being serviced.

Slowly rotate the corresponding shaft and inspect the boot for cracks or holes. Traces of grease may also indicate a leak.

Are the clamps tight?
Replace damaged boots as soon as possible, otherwise water entering the joints will destroy them, and joint replacement is quite expensive!
