Automatic Transmission Check
The automatic transmission offers little scope for self-diagnosis at home. Targeted checks, however, help to assess the cause of a fault, which is particularly useful when buying a used vehicle:
PROCEDURE
In case of malfunctions, first check the ATF level in the automatic transmission.
If the ATF on the dipstick tip smells burnt, there is serious damage to the automatic transmission. In this case the multi-plate clutches or brake bands are defective.
During a test drive, the shift points can be checked.
The condition of the automatic transmission can be judged from how the shifts take place.
Adjustment of the throttle cable with integrated accelerator pedal kickdown switch is an important condition for correct operation.
The same applies to the adjustment of the selector lever cable.
