Removing the inner joint

Tripod joint
The tripod joint (1) cannot be separated from the drive axle shaft. Constant velocity joints, by contrast, can be removed from the drive shaft itself (3), both the outer (2) and the inner (4).
PROCEDURE
Tripod joints cannot be separated from the drive shaft. As spare parts they are supplied complete with the axle shaft and protective boot. Therefore, when replacing, remove the outer joint and replace the shaft with the inner joint.
If only the protective boot of the tripod joint is defective, first remove the outer joint. On the cleaned drive shaft, the boot can be slid back to the tripod joint. Critical point: the boot must be lifted over the shoulder in the middle of the shaft. To do this, lubricate the shoulder with grease and lift the boot over the bulge using a blunt round tool (the handle of a spoon).
The joint contains 140 g of G 000 605 grease. When replacing the boot, only a small amount of grease needs to be added.
