Mono-Motronic Injection System

Checking the fuel injector

~1min read

PROCEDURE

Test with engine running: oil temperature must be at least 60°C, which corresponds to 10 minutes of driving after a cold start.

Remove the air intake hose.

Start the engine and let it run at idle.

Observe the fuel injection spray. It should be even and directed at the throttle valve.

Switch off the engine to check injector valve sealing.

With the engine off, no more than two drops per minute should drip.

Further checks must be carried out if the engine does not start.

Check fuses 13 and 27.

Remove the air filter and the air intake hose.

Have an assistant crank the engine with the starter.

The fuel injector should clearly inject fuel.

If it does not, disconnect the brown connector at the top of the fuel metering unit.

Connect ohmmeter to both middle connector pins (on the fuel metering unit).

At ambient temperature between +15 and +30°C, the ohmmeter should read 1.2–1.6 Ω; otherwise the injector is faulty. Unscrew the Torx screw and replace the injector.

If the injector does not work despite correct resistance values, check the injector power supply.

Connect an LED voltmeter, without using any other tool, to both middle contacts in the disconnected connector.

Crank the starter: the LEDs should flicker; otherwise there is a wiring break or a control unit fault.
