Driveshaft Boot Condition Check

~1min read

PROCEDURE

1. The drive shaft protective boots are very important components, as they protect the constant velocity joints (CV joints) from dirt, water and other foreign objects that can cause damage. External contamination of the boots with oil and grease can lead to premature failure of the boot material. For this reason, it is recommended to periodically wash the boots with water and soap.

2. Inspect the boots for tears and cracks, as well as loose clamps. If signs of cracking or grease leakage are found, the boot must be replaced.

3. At the same time, check the general condition of the constant velocity joints by holding the shaft and simultaneously attempting to turn the wheel. Repeat the check while holding the inner constant velocity joint and turning the shaft. Any noticeable play indicates wear of the joint, wear in the shaft splines, or loosening of the shaft lock nut.
