Inspection of Timing Belt for Damage and Wear Measurement
Belt Wear Measurement on Diesel Engine
Diesel Engine
You will need the following to perform this work:
– vernier caliper, – timing belt and tensioner roller (if necessary).
Even if the belt is not worn, it must be replaced every 60,000 km.
Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. Release the 3 clips securing the upper timing belt cover.
2. Move the upper cover slightly to the side so that the belt is visible.
3. Measure the belt width –a– with a vernier caliper. If the belt width is less than 22 mm, the belt has reached the wear limit and must be replaced (refer to the accompanying illustration).
4. Replace the timing belt and tensioner roller. Refer to the subsection Setting No. 1 Piston to TDC.
5. Secure the upper timing belt cover with the clips.
6. If the timing belt has been replaced, attach a sticker with the new replacement date to the inside of the hood.
