GENERAL INFORMATION

CAUTION

A noise when the belt retracts is normal. Under no circumstances should oil or grease be used to eliminate it. For safety reasons, the belt retractor and tensioner must not be disassembled.

PROCEDURE

1. Fully extend the seat belt and check the webbing for damaged threads.

2. Damage may be caused, for example, by the belt being pinched or by a burning cigarette. In this case, the belt must be replaced.

3. If there is abrasion without damage to the threads, the belt does not need to be replaced.

4. A belt that retracts with difficulty must be checked for twisting. If necessary, remove the trim on the center pillar.

5. If the retractor does not work, the belt must be replaced (work for a service station).

6. The belt webbing may only be cleaned with soap and water. Never use solvents or chemical cleaners for this purpose.
