Checking Automatic Transmission Final Drive Fluid Level

GENERAL INFORMATION No special tools are required.

CAUTION

If the final drive fluid level check shows that there is too much or too little fluid, the fluid must be replaced together with the planetary gear set. The cause must be determined and eliminated at an AUDI service center.

Inspection

PROCEDURE

1. Park the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.

2. Unscrew the speedometer drive from the transmission and wipe it with a cloth.

3. Reinstall and remove the drive again, then check the fluid level on the drive. The fluid level must be between the MIN and MAX marks.

4. If necessary, add fluid. The fluid volume between the MIN and MAX marks is 0.1 L, so do not overfill. Excess fluid must be drained, for example with a syringe connected to a plastic hose.

5. Install the speedometer drive into the transmission.

6. Attach a sticker with the new final drive fluid check date to the inside of the hood.
