Coolant temperature gauge
The coolant temperature gauge, Fig. 2 (1), only operates when the ignition is switched on. To avoid damaging the engine, please observe the following notes on the temperature ranges.
Engine cold
As long as the needle is in the left-hand section of the gauge, the engine has not yet reached its operating temperature.
Therefore avoid high engine speeds and full-throttle acceleration, and do not place heavy demands on the engine yet!
Normal temperature
During normal driving, the engine has reached its operating temperature when the needle stays roughly in the central area of the scale. If the engine is under heavy load and the outside temperature is high, the needle may move further to the right. This is not a concern as long as the warning light i does not illuminate in the instrument cluster.
If the symbol -1. flashes in the display, this means that the coolant temperature is too high or the coolant level is too low.
CAUTION!
- Please observe the warnings in "Work to be carried out in the engine compartment" before opening the engine hood to check the coolant level.
- Never open the engine hood if you see or hear steam or coolant escaping from the engine compartment - risk of scalding! Wait until the escape of steam or coolant is no longer visible or audible.
Warning!
- Fitting headlights and other additional parts in front of the cooling air intakes reduces the cooling effect of the coolant.
This is because the engine may overheat when under heavy load and at high outside temperatures.
- The front spoiler ensures good airflow to the cooling system while driving. If it is damaged, the cooling effect is reduced and there is a significant risk of engine overheating! Have it checked by a specialist.
