Driver and Front Passenger Front Airbag Features
The advanced front airbag system has a multi-stage inflator for the driver and front passenger airbags. This system provides output matched to the severity and type of collision as determined by the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), which may receive information from frontal impact sensors (if equipped) or other system components.
The first-stage inflator deploys immediately during a crash that requires airbag deployment. Low output is used in less severe crashes. High output is used in more severe crashes.
This vehicle may be equipped with a driver and/or front passenger seat belt switch that detects whether the driver's or front passenger's seat belt is buckled. The seat belt buckle switch can adjust the inflation speed of the Advanced Front Airbags.
This vehicle may be equipped with driver and/or front passenger seat position sensors that can adjust the inflation speed of the Advanced Front Airbags based on seat position.
- Do not place any objects over or near the airbag on the instrument panel or steering wheel, because any such objects can cause injury if the vehicle is involved in a crash severe enough to deploy the airbag.
- Do not place anything on or around the airbag covers and do not attempt to open them by hand. You may damage the airbags and be injured, because the airbags may no longer function. The airbag covers are designed to open only when the airbags deploy.
- Relying only on airbags may result in more serious injury in a crash. Airbags work with your seat belt to restrain you properly. In some crashes, the airbags will not deploy at all. Always wear your seat belts even if you have airbags.
