Enhanced Accident Response System
In the event of a collision, if the communication network remains intact and power is maintained, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) will determine, depending on the nature of the event, whether the Enhanced Accident Response System should perform the following functions:
- Shut off the fuel supply to the engine (if equipped).
- Shut off power from the traction battery (if equipped).
- Hazard warning lights flash while the battery has power.
- Turn on the interior lights, which remain on until battery power is depleted or for 15 minutes after the Enhanced Accident Response System intervention.
- Unlock the power door locks.
Your vehicle may also be designed to perform any of these other functions in response to the Enhanced Accident Response System:
- Turn off the fuel heater, turn off the HVAC blower motor, close the HVAC recirculation door.
- Shut off battery power to the following:
- Engine
- Electric motor (if equipped)
- Electric power steering
- Brake booster
- Electric parking brake
- Automatic transmission shift selector
- Horn
- Front wiper
- Headlamp washer pump
NOTE:
After an accident, be sure to turn the ignition to the STOP (OFF/LOCK) position and remove the key from the ignition switch to prevent battery discharge. Carefully check the vehicle for fuel leaks in the engine compartment and on the ground near the engine compartment and fuel tank before resetting the system and starting the engine. If there are no fuel leaks or damage to the vehicle's electrical components (e.g., headlamps) after the accident, reset the system by following the procedure below. If you have any doubts, consult an authorized dealer.
Enhanced Accident Response System Reset Procedure
To reset the Enhanced Accident Response System functions after an event, the ignition switch must be turned from the START or ON/RUN position to the OFF position. Carefully check the vehicle for fuel leaks in the engine compartment and on the ground near the engine compartment and fuel tank before resetting the system and starting the engine.
After an accident, if the vehicle does not start after performing the reset procedure, the vehicle must be towed to an authorized dealer for inspection and reset of the Enhanced Accident Response System.
